We are pleased to announce the arrival of Buddy as an assistant to Rob and Jason looking after the pigs on the farm.
NEW MATERNITY WING
Whilst here at Garnetts we love to have our Sows Farrowing outside during the Summer months our soil type is not suitable for the New Mums and their piglets to be outside all year round.
So November 2013 saw the arrival of a new Maternity wing on the farm, this was built especially for us in Ireland came across on the Ferry and by road and was then airlifted into position on the farm.
This RSPCA Freedom Food Approved Portapig unit allows the Sows to farrow comfortably in Pens where they can move around.

WHAT A YEAR FOR AWARDS!!
Great Garnetts has done it again! The Great Taste Awards is the Oscars of the Food industry, and we are so proud to have been awarded medals this year for our pork products and also for our Turkeys! The Great Taste Awards judging standards, devised by the Guild of Fine Food are the most rigorous in the UK, with each entry being blind tasted by at least three different teams of experts. It is an excellent achievement for a small farm like ours. The word is spreading too it seems about how good our products really are – we are now supplying our pork to some of the most discerning outlets. Our pork is actually on the menu at the new Gilbert Scott restaurant, Renaissance hotel (Marcus Wareing) and also at the Ivy in London.
IN 2012 WE WERE AWARDED…
Gammon 2 stars
Collars 2 stars
Pork 1 star
Turkey 1 star
…AND THE ESSEX LIFE FOOD PRODUCER OF 2012!

“I’m so pleased that Great Garnetts owners Jonathan and Julie have won the Best Essex Produce in the 2012 Essex Life Fine Food and Drink Awards because they deserve it. Not only are committed to their animals, ensuring their welfare and happiness, their approach to low environmental impact, commitment to stockmanship and animal husbandry is of the highest standard. They are passionate about everything they do resulting in the production of an exceptionally flavoursome and delicious pork; from gammon to bacon to sausages. Once you have tasted it you will go back for more, again and again”.
